I've been wanting to visit Thai X-ing since day one in DC. The restaurant is a modified townhouse and you can barely tell that it's not a residence when you see it on the street; rather, it feels like you're going to someone's house for dinner. The basement, main floor, and second floor all have tables laid out, and they have a fat cat running around the restaurant/apartment.
David and I visited on a Wednesday, which is when they have the best deal. At Thai X-ing, Sun/Mon/Tue are veggie only, Wed/Thur are meat and veggie, and Fri/Sat are also meat and veggie but they charge more for the same food on the weekend because seats are in greater demand. It was such a great idea to visit here because it was a five-star worthy meal and I had some of the most delicious dishes that I've eaten in recent memory.
Cucumber soup. The cucumber is stuffed with ground pork and the broth was rich to the point of overindulgent.
Papaya salad. So much fresh veggies, paired with a fresh vinaigrette.
Pumpkin curry. This was my favorite dish of the night. The melt-in-your-mouth pumpkin chunks were very rich and it had the most incredible mouth feel.
Chicken salad. This was okay, I wasn't a fan of the ground chicken.
Chicken legs. The meat had been braised for so long that it literally slipped off the bone when you slurped it.
Bean sprouts and veggies. Also okay, but I really liked how much salad was incorporated throughout the courses.
Pad see ew. Great, although we were way too full to even touch this and brought most of it home.
Sticky mango pudding, a wonderful conclusion to a delicious meal. The mango was perfectly ripe and the sticky rice was perfectly cooked.

Alas I didn't manage to take a picture of the cat :'(
OMG I love Thai Xing!!! Although Andrew and I got serious food poisoning afterwards... probably too much coconut since that's a supposed laxative...
